Hydrothermal Dolomite
map of Western Canada
This map covers Alberta,
B.C., southern Yukon and southern Northwest Territories.
This map is a schematic summary
of the occurrence and inferred structural controls
on
localization of subsurface hydrothermal dolomite (HTD)
reservoir facies, of Mississippi Valley Type (MVT)
lead-zinc
ore bodies hosted in HTD facies or related carbonates,
and sedimentary-exhalative (SEDEX) lead-zinc shale-hosted
mineral deposits. The common tie between these deposits
is interpreted to be their origin from hydrothermal
fluids (hot brines), probably linked in time to one
or more periods of extensional tectonism with elevated
heat flow. The map, first prepared in 1993, has been
updated in 1996 and again in 2001, and includes most
known or inferred HTD oil and gas pools and discoveries
in Western
Canada.
