Courses
The principal of GDGC, Dr. Graham Davies,
teaches various technical courses for petroleum engineers
and geologists. Most courses are conducted through the Canadian
Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG) or the Petroleum Society
of CIM.
They include:
1: Geology for Engineers: presented in
conjunction with Dr. Michael D. Wilson of Denver, Colorado.
This course has been presented twice a year since 1980, on
contract to the Petroleum Society of CIM. It is a five-day
course incorporating a half-day core seminar and a three-quarter
day field trip to the Rocky Mountains. The same course or modified
versions has been presented to individual exploration companies
in western Canada, and in the Phillipines.

2: Hydrothermal Dolomite Reservoir Facies:
global and western Canadian perspectives
This one or two day course (with or without
a core seminar) has been presented by Graham Davies since
1996 through the CSPG and more recently to the Eastern Section
of the AAPG. Variations of the course have been presented
in-house to various exploration companies since 1993. Updated
versions emphasize the role of fault-influenced fluid movement,
the significance of strike-slip faults, and the association
with leached limestone reservoirs. Hydrothermal dolomite
reservoirs (and leached limestones) are major exploration
targets and producers in western Canada, in eastern Canada,
the northeastern and southern USA, and elsewhere [Note: this
course is now superceded by the Hydrothermal Dolomite Reservoir
Facies Report and associated courses.]

3: Triassic of the Western Canada Sedimentary
Basin
Graham Davies has been the principal contributor
to several versions of this course, presented through the
CSPG, initially with Dr. Tom Moslow beginning in 1992, and
more recently with a group of speakers as part of the CSPG "Advantage" program,
first presented in 1996. Aspects of the content of this course
presented by Graham have been published as a series of six
papers in the Bulletin of Canadian Petroleum Geology, Volume
45, 1997. Graham has also presented the Triassic section
of the CSPG "Advantage" course on the "Geology
of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin" (1998).
